Gita Mandir (Birla Mandir)

A red-sandstone temple on the Mathura–Vrindavan road, built in 1946 by the industrialist Jugal Kishore Birla in memory of his parents. The main sanctum holds Lakshmi-Narayana, with Radha-Krishna and Sita-Rama in the side shrines, and the grounds keep a chariot of Krishna and the Gita Stambha, an 18-metre pillar engraved with all 700 verses of the Bhagavad-gita. Most visitors stop here on the road between Mathura and Vrindavan.
