Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple

The old Shiva temple of Thanesar — the Mahadev after whom the town, and the capital of the Vardhana kings, was named. Tradition says the Pandavas, with Krishna, worshipped Shiva here and received his blessing for victory before the Kurukshetra war. The present building is credited to Raghunath Rao Peshwa; a gurdwara next door marks where Guru Tegh Bahadur stayed.
