Potra Kund
Kunda · Mallpura, near Krishna Janmabhoomi, Mathura, UP 281001
A deep stepped tank of red sandstone just south-east of the Janmabhoomi, where tradition says the clothes (potra) of the newborn Krishna were washed; some also call it the water of His first bath. Mahadji Scindia built its flights of steps in 1782 and his descendants restored them in 1850. Pilgrims usually come here on foot straight from the birthplace shrine.
