The kshetrapala Shiva guarding the southern side of Mathura, beside Kans Tila. Kamsa is remembered as his worshipper, and the name Ranga-ishvara, Lord of the arena, recalls that Shiva watched Krishna's victory in the wrestling ground next door. With Bhuteshwar in the west, Gokarneshwar in the north and Pipleshwar in the east he is one of the four guardian Mahadevas of the city, all visited on the Mathura parikrama.
