Swargadwar Beach (Mahodadhi)
Lila-sthana · Swargadwar, Puri, Odisha 752001
The stretch of sea shore at Swargadwar, the 'gate of heaven', where pilgrims bathe in the Mahodadhi, the great ocean counted among Puri's five tirthas. Mahaprabhu bathed here daily and then sat by Haridasa Thakura's grave close by, and a cremation ground adjoins the shore. The Govardhan Math offers its daily Samudra Arati to the sea here, and tradition says Jagannath comes in His Narayana form to bathe on each new moon.
