Kubja Krishna Mandir

The place remembered as the house and well (Kubja Kupa) of Kubja, behind Rangeshwar Mahadev in the south of old Mathura. On His first walk through the city Krishna met this hunchbacked maidservant of Kamsa carrying sandal paste; she anointed Him and Balarama, and pressing her feet with His own and lifting her chin, He made her straight and beautiful. After Kamsa's death He visited her house with Uddhava. A small temple with deities of Kubja and Krishna marks the spot.
