Brahma Kapal
Ghat · Alaknanda bank, Badrinath, Uttarakhand 246422
A flat rock platform on the bank of the Alaknanda a short walk north of the temple, where pilgrims offer pinda and shraddha for their ancestors. The name recalls Brahma's fifth head, said to have fallen here from Shiva's hand; rites done here are widely believed to free the ancestors so fully that no further shraddha is needed. After the pinda-dana, families go to the Dharma Shila in the temple's parikrama to give a cow in charity.
