Talvan (Tarsi)
Sacred forest · Tarsi, Mathura, UP 281005
Talvan, the palm forest, is one of the twelve forests of Braj, now the village of Tarsi south of Mathura. Here Balarama killed the donkey-demon Dhenukasura, who guarded the grove's sweet tala fruits from the cowherd boys, by whirling him into a palm tree. The village's Dauji temple keeps Balarama with Revati and Krishna beside the Balabhadra (Sankarshana) Kund, and a few tall tala palms still stand in its compound.
