Kaliya Ghat

Ghat · Kaliya Ghat, Parikrama Marg, Vrindavan, UP 281121

The pool of the Yamuna where Krishna fought the many-headed serpent Kaliya, whose venom had poisoned the river, and danced on his hoods until he surrendered and left for the ocean. Pilgrims are shown the old kadamba tree from which Krishna is said to have leapt into the water. The river has since moved away; the ghat lies on the parikrama path near Dvadasaditya Tila, the hill where the twelve suns warmed Krishna after the fight.
