Vishnupad Temple

The temple over a footprint of Vishnu pressed into basalt on the bank of the Phalgu, rebuilt in 1787 by Ahilyabai Holkar. Hindus come here to offer pinda for their ancestors, most of all in the Pitru Paksha fortnight; for Gaudiyas it is where Sri Chaitanya, seeing the footprint, was overcome and took initiation from Ishvara Puri.
