Batamangala Temple

A small roadside temple of the goddess Mangala on the highway into Puri, about 3 km before the town. 'Bata' means the way: she is said to have shown Brahma the road to Puri when King Indradyumna invited him, so pilgrims stop here first and ask her to reveal the dham to them too. The four-armed goddess sits in lotus posture in a shrine only about 15 feet high.
