Revered as the site of King Kamsa's prison, where Krishna appeared to Devaki and Vasudeva at midnight. Pilgrims pass a strict security gate (phones and cameras are left outside), go down to the Garbha Griha birth-chamber shrine beside the shrine of eight-armed Yogamaya, then visit the Keshavdev temple and the Bhagavata Bhavan, where the Srimad-Bhagavatam is inscribed on copper plates. Janmashtami night draws the largest crowds of the year.
