Gokarneshwar Mahadev
Temple · Shiva · Masani, Mathura, UP 281001
The kshetrapala Shiva of Mathura's northern side, in the Masani area near the old Sarasvati confluence. He is named after Gokarna, the reciter of the Bhagavata in the Padma Purana story, who is said to have consecrated the shrine; unusually, a four-foot image of the sage stands beside the linga. In the Ambikavan pastime, Nanda Maharaja's party worshipped Shiva here as Pashupati before camping near the goddess's shrine.
