Shiv Tal
Kunda · Shiv Tal, Sonkh Adda, near Mukund Palace, Mathura, UP 281001
A deep square tank built by Raja Patnimal of Banaras, the banker who restored many Mathura temples, to supply the city with water. High walls with chhatri-roofed corners enclose flights of steps that drop some fifty feet to the water. It is a bathing stop on the Mathura parikrama; pilgrims then worship at the Achaleshwar Shiva temple facing the tank, and a fair is held here every year on the Ekadashi of Bhadrapada.
