Brahma Sarovar

A vast rectangular tank in Thanesar, linked by tradition to Brahma's creation of the world and one of the largest man-made pools in Asia. Hundreds of thousands bathe here on Somavati Amavasya and above all during a solar eclipse; in early December the Gita Mahotsav lines its ghats with lamps. A huge bronze chariot of Krishna and Arjuna stands on the bank, and a causeway leads to the Sarveshwar Mahadev shrine on the island.
