Markandeshwar Temple

An old east-facing Shiva temple on the bank of Markandeya Sarovar, counted among the five Shivas who guard Puri, where he is identified with Arjuna among the Pandavas. The sage Markandeya is said to have worshipped Shiva here, and pilgrims come after bathing in the tank. Its utsava deity takes part in Jagannath's festivals, including the boat rides of Chandana Yatra.
