Ambarish Tila

Lila-sthana · Vrindavan Road, Ratan Kund, Chowk Bazar, Mathura, UP 281001

A mound in the north of the city near the old meeting of the Sarasvati with the Yamuna, where King Ambarisha is said to have kept a year-long waterless Ekadashi vow. When the sage Durvasa, delayed at the river, cursed him for breaking the fast with a sip of the Lord's foot-water, the Sudarshana disc chased Durvasa through the universe until Ambarisha himself prayed for him — the story of the Bhagavatam's ninth canto. Chakra Tirtha lies close by.
